At the moment it seems like everyone is struggling to do something different. Do you ever write down a load of blog post ideas and then scroll Twitter and bang, your post idea is there… written by someone else? Because I sure as hell do. It’s literally happened about 6 times this week already and I understand how frustrating that can be. Although of course it’s no ones fault, there is only so much people can write about on the internet before it all starts to look the same.
I’ve been blogging since October 2013, initially a beauty blogger I soon learned that my heart wasn’t in it and had to adapt and change. Fitcake is my 3rd blog which I started in April 2017 and I am more in love with blogging then ever before. I finally feel like I’ve found my rightful place. If you head over to my about me page it’ll explain all there! I thought it may be a good idea to share ways to brainstorm new blog content and try put my experience to some good use.
I said it on Twitter recently that I am still obsessed by the glossy mags. I adore them and most of them literally cost a pound these days. They are useful for content, ideas, tips, as props! You name it they can be good to have around. The main three that I read regularly are Womens Health, Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazine. Articles in the magazine can be a talking point so ideal to write opinions on. They always have foodie ideas, style ideas and beauty obsessions which is great for creating similar (but not the same) content that may interest your followers too! Sometimes when I’m feeling lost I’ll flick though them just to relax, this is usually when new ideas tend to strike!
I rarely use Facebook for promoting my blog, although I do have a Facebook page and I’ve recently set up a Facebook group for health and fitness bloggers to use. I do however use Facebook groups to find out what people are interested in. What questions are bloggers/readers asking, what’s trending in certain groups, can I assist or share my journey with anyone? Chances are there is something that you can write up about to help somebody else. I scroll through both Facebook and Twitter and screenshot when I think something relevant comes up and then once a week sit down and put blog ideas together for new content.
Press releases are your friend. (If you subscribe to the right ones anyway). When I first started blogging I wrote down all the brands that I love and then signed up to all of their newsletters and PR emails. This has resulted in receiving in depth press releases about business updates, new launches, new products etc and they usually come with high res images as well. For me as a health and fitness blogger this is ideal as it means I can stay ahead of the game and have a regular feed coming in that I can create content with. Plus what better way to get noticed by your favourite brands then by listening to them and sharing their successes on social media! It’s led me to some great collaborations.
These are the main three ways to brainstorm new blog content for me and Fitcake blog. They are not the only ways and they are most certainly not the best ways I am sure but take it as you will and if you have other ways to brainstorm new blog content share them in the comments!
