Hello again, it’s me, I hope you’ve been out enjoying the sunshine as much as we have as a family. The weather has been fantastic hasn’t it?
I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to forking out on luxuries. For some unknown reason things like getting my nails and hair done have over the years, become a luxury for me. Only really spending money when absolutely necessary and making sure that I prioritise other less exciting things first.
With that being said it’s been almost two years since I had a proper hair cut and restyle. This leads back to just before I left my full time sales job to look after my husband and take on a few less stressful revenue streams.
The one thing I love the most about myself has long been my hair. Okay, having long thick hair can be a downright nightmare at times but honestly, knowing how many people longed for my kinda hair. I was pretty happy with it most of the time.
Anyway, many moons ago I used to visit the same salon every 3 months for the trim and colour top up. I then cancelled and just started to drift away from the salon and never really looked elsewhere for that perfect salon. So I thought I’d share some of those thoughts that occurred when finding MY new hairdresser that led me to trust my hair with them, enjoy your time and get that style that you want without crying 2 hours later in the bathroom.
As I’ve got older, and slightly more miserable with money. I just couldn’t bring myself to pay top dollar for essentially a few inches off when I knew my husband only paid a tenner to get his trimmed.
It’s a great game to be in, my daughter has always wanted to be a hairdresser and I applaud her for it, although at the minute she wants to buy several salons and run them as a business lady rather then working in the shops themselves. Smart kid. Not from me I can assure you!
The lovely Martyna contacted me on Instagram and asked if I’d like to come along for a complementary cut and style. Martyna actually works as a self-employed hairdresser and is based in Mode, Chester (by Iceland). It couldn’t have come at a better time to be honest as it’s been SO long since I had anything done with my hair and it was a coloured, dead end, matted mess most of the time.
I knew instantly that I wanted something drastic doing and decided to go for the chop so booked in.
I was anxious. I’m always anxious so the idea of walking through Chester alone, entering a totally new salon that I wasn’t used to and meeting a person that I’d have to make conversation with over a few hours was a little daunting to say the least.
Now I realise that I was being a little silly letting my mind take over so much.
Martyna was an absolute angel. I gave her an idea of what I’d like and as expected I thought it may be a little exciting getting to remove SO MUCH HAIR. She instantly asked to chop off around 6 inches of hair before the hair transformation began.
She was friendly, funny and so easy to talk to that I relaxed almost instantly and was happy in the knowledge that my hair was gonna look fabulous afterwards.
To be honest, until I walked in and started discussing my hair I hadn’t realised how bad it actually was. Martyna was great though and explained what she was going to do, what products she uses and explained how they all work which was great as I now need the whole range.
I got a lovely cup of tea and watched Martyna work away at restyling my hair. I am thrilled with the result and still love it today. I was so worried that I’d hate having it just below the shoulder and I’d miss my locks. In the past I’ve clearly gone to the wrong person when I’ve had a big change as I’ve never truly liked my hair after the first wash.
This time however, I am head over heels for my new hair and love that Martyna achieved exactly what I asked for and expected. Which is amazing.
I’ll 100% be returning to Martyna for future hair appointments as she is the loveliest lady and really listens and makes me feel comfortable. You can find her Instagram page here and see her previous work.
What do you look for in a hairdresser? Are you loyal or do you shop around?
