Hello again, hope you’re all feeling awesome? I mentioned in a recent post that I’ve been struggling recently with motivation. I think that’s mainly down to the weather and the seasonal changes and my mental illness doesn’t really help all that much either.
However, recently deciding that I’m ready to jump back into employment means that I’m having to get myself into a routine that works, and fast.
Although I’m not in a rush to join just any old job and I’m being quite picky with the ones I want to apply for and spend time on, I need that little something in the morning that helps me to get up, wake up and get ready for a day of productivity and motivation.
At the moment my main jobs of the day include creating content, both written and visual and marketing across the internet. Although my background is sales I’ve found an increasing love for social media and spend a lot of time online trying to perfect everything.
This can come with it’s set backs though as the old comparison game battles on into your mind, it can be quite easy to feel demotivated when things don’t always go quite to plan.
content is king
As well all know, and it can be increasingly difficult to put together new stuff that nobody has seen before. Here’s a few things that I use to brainstorm new content when I’m having a lull. These also help me to stay on point with my morning routine and aid my productivity during the day. Meaning I’m not wasting time trying to figure out what I need to do as this can be prepared at alternative times of the day.
I said it on Twitter recently that I am still obsessed by the glossy mags. I adore them and most of them literally cost a pound these days. They are useful for content, ideas, tips, as props! You name it they can be good to have around. The main three that I read regularly are Women’s Health, Cosmopolitan and Glamour magazine. Articles in the magazine can be a talking point so ideal to write opinions on. They always have foodie ideas, style ideas and beauty obsessions which is great for creating similar (but not the same) content that may interest your followers too! Sometimes when I’m feeling lost I’ll flick though them just to relax, this is usually when new ideas tend to strike!
I always use Facebook for promoting my blog, I never used to use it but I’ve seen such an increase in traffic it’s kind of hard to ignore, I use Facebook groups mostly to find out what people are interested in. What questions are bloggers/readers asking, what’s trending in certain groups, can I assist or share my journey with anyone? Chances are there is something that you can write up about to help somebody else. I scroll through both Facebook and Twitter and screenshot when I think something relevant comes up and then once a week sit down and put blog ideas together for new content.
Press releases are your friend. (If you subscribe to the right ones anyway). When I first started blogging I wrote down all the brands that I love and then signed up to all of their newsletters and PR emails. This has resulted in receiving in depth press releases about business updates, new launches, new products etc and they usually come with high resolution images that you can use as well. For me as a health and fitness blogger this is ideal as it means I can stay ahead of the game and have a regular feed coming in that I can create content with. Plus what better way to get noticed by your favourite brands then by listening to them and sharing their successes on social media! It’s led me to some great collaborations so far.
an easy morning routine.
There are a few things that I like to do before I get to work most mornings. The main thing being getting out of bed, we all know how hard that can be at times, especially in the colder months when it seems to be constantly dim and the duvet is just so warm and inviting.
Luckily I work from my home office/corner of my bedroom so I never have to venture far, but that doesn’t mean that I am full of the joys of spring the minute I wake up.
I like to get up early, before the kids and sit with a quiet cup of tea in the morning, nothing but the fuss of the pups and a chilled social media scroll to keep me feeling relaxed.
If course, this is soon overtaken by the madness that is children and getting them ready for school. It doesn’t help that the kids go to school about 40 minutes away which means quite a long school run most of the week and it’s usually mid morning by the time I get back.
A good healthy, and tasty breakfast is always on the cards because otherwise what is the point. As you know we recently started food prep, although this only applies to evening meals so I can indulge a little during the day, mostly at breakfast time. Yum.
I’ve recently gotten into the habit of choosing my outfits the day before too, I tend to wear a lot of activewear so it’s not that difficult to put something together these days as most things tend to match whatever the brand.
A handy little to do list is also a must. I like to sit and write out what I need to do, prioritise what’s most important and work backwards. This allows me to tackle the hardest things first and the day flows and gets easier as the hours tick by.
These are the simple things that I do to make sure that I have productive mornings and can prioritise what needs doing each day with a little more motivation then usual.
How do you tend to motivate yourself so you can be productive? I’d be interested to find out.
