Well hello strangers.
Hasn’t it been a while. I cannot believe that we are already in March and I only posted 3 blog posts in February. That’s the least I’ve done in my four years of blogging, SHOCK. I am also fast approaching my first birthday with Fitcake so watch out for some celebrations and a little giveaway coming up soon.
At the moment I am all about saving money. I have to stop wasting money on all things material and need to get my head around being frugal and trying to minimise my lifestyle as much as possible.
Don’t get me wrong, a spa day would be incredible, however, I just can’t afford to lose £50 for a few hours in a jacuzzi and a half hour massage so I’ve had to find alternative ways to relax at home.
With all the changes I am trying to implement into my life at present I thought it would be a good idea to sit and write down some of the ways I relax at home so I don’t get the FOMO feeling every time someone posts an insane image of their latest pamper day.
First off, for me the best way to relax is to plan some me time around the rest of the family. I have two small people who are in full time school which makes this a little easier as I can work from home at present while freelancing so it means I have a little more flexibility when it comes to making arrangements for a time out.
I like to think I’m quite an easily pleased person. Although saying that being an anxious person it can be really hard to chill out as such as I’m always going through the motions in my head of the past, present, future and everything else in between.
My lovely husband recently installed the bath that I picked up for free on Freecycle from a lovely lady in the next town from our village. It’s a great bath with taps on the side and the plug in the centre, plus its quite deep so ideal for a lie down and soak.
Sure it needed a scrub as it had been stored behind a garage but it’s perfect, no scratches and came with all the fixtures and fittings.
Anyway, let’s discuss some of the ways that I relax even being an anxiety sufferer.
There is nothing nicer then a hot steamy lavender bath for relaxing. I get insomnia quite a lot with the medication I am on and it drives me utterly crazy when I cannot get to sleep. Sitting up alone at 3am is pretty damn boring let me tell you.
This led me to try SO many things to help me to settle for the evening and at least fall asleep a little easier. I have to say that since we’ve had the bath put in the wet room it does help with my evening routine and let me get cosy before bed.
I’ve also got a thing for pretty smelling bath bombs so I love to use these when I’ve remembered to buy them.
I LOVE magazines. I’m still an absolute sucker for print and try to grab my favourites every month.
It’s nice to just sit back, feet up with a cuppa in hand and flick through the latest articles and see what is happening in the magazine world.
I also find mags a great place for inspiration when it comes to creating content and blog post ideas so it’s a win all round really.
TV show marathons
Sometimes it’s good to just forget about the real world and have a TV show binge. I like the cheesy american shows like Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars as well as Game of Thrones and Friends so there is always something that I can sit down and get lost in to relieve tension and forget about troubles for a little while.
Reading a book
I have to admit, I rarely sat down to read a book last year. I’m not even sure why really it’s almost like the end of the year came around a lot quicker then expected and I just hadn’t found the time to sit down and get lost in a book.
This year I promised myself I’d spend more time offline and get reading again.
I’ve downloaded the digital versions of the Sarah Knight books to start reading as they come with so many recommendations. I’ve started the first one so I’ll report back once I’ve read more, if you have any other recommendations comment below!
I have a skincare routine that I try to stick to these days although in theory it can be a pain in the bum to remember. I’m quite lazy in reality so sometimes I’ll go to bed without removing my make up because quite simply, I can’t be bothered.
I do have a great face mask that I like to use though and it’s great to team that up with my bubble bath, cup of tea, a book and the important mask too.
The ones you get from the supermarket or the likes of Boots and Superdrug are also great. I love the peel off ones especially, they are strangely satisfying plus the heat one feels amazing when you want to feel the love a little more on your skin.
There are so many more ways that I like to relax but the main ones are above, as well as laying on my pre-heated bed after getting out of the bath and accidentally falling asleep like I did the other day and a glass of wine or two to help take the weight off of my shoulders.
I’d love to know how you like to relax at home, plus any other money saving ways to get that all important R&R as we can’t all afford fancy mini breaks and posh spa days in this day and age can we?
