I don’t know about you but I am not made for this weather. Unless it involves a private villa, a cold pool and frozen ice lollies I really don’t want to know.
So while I sit here melting away for the millionth day I thought I’d share some life updates with you. Mostly about my food habits as they have gotten so out of control lately.
Last week I managed to curb my habits and take the plunge into regaining control of my food habits. No more unnecessary sugar, no more pointless snacks and eating proper well balanced meals again.
It’s amazing how quickly I felt better when I was paying more attention to my bodies needs. Plus fighting back against the cravings and switching to healthier alternatives. I’d never go on a “diet” as I don’t agree with the mentality of those, I’d rather put more effort into making small changes, better choices and healthier alternatives.
I’ve been wanting to try making acai bowls for a while now. Mostly thanks to certain bloggers/influencers and watching their YouTube channels religiously over the past year or so I’ve been meaning to put some together. You know when you want to try new things but time runs away and you just never get the chance to try it.
Originating in Brazil the Acai palm fruit is frozen and mashed to create smoothie bowls or acai bowls. It is usually coupled with granola and fruits such as banana to make a healthy breakfast bowl.
Smoothie bowls have been growing increasingly popular across the social media world, with influencers, bloggers and health professionals sharing their creations with the online community. You only have to take a peek at Pinterest to see some of the amazing recipes people have put together to make an attractive bowl of goodness.
Sambazon very kindly sent me their original blend acai packs to try putting together some recipes of my own. This couldn’t of happened at a better time to be quite honest. Nothing screams summer more then a frozen, berry smoothie in the morning while sat in the back garden watching the sun rise.
Stacked with antioxidants and healthy omegas, it tastes like exotic mixed berry meets a hint of cacao. With more antioxidants than blueberries, this is dense nutrition at its best.
Having said that, I’d never tried them before even though I’d been meaning too for a while so not only did I have high expectations on what they should look like. It was also a massive learning curve actually getting a bowl that looked as good as the ones on the internet.
The first one wasn’t a great success as I’d left the sachet to thaw a little too much so it ended up a runny mess and my granola/fruit toppings basically sunk. Winner.
My second attempt was better and I bought my favourite fruits to make it an enjoyable experience. Topping with banana and frozen blueberries I thoroughly enjoyed a tasty smoothie bowl. It really helped during this ridiculous heatwave as well. You can see my amateur creations over on my Instagram channel.
They taste great and are super good for you so you can’t really go wrong can you? Plus they are Vegan, Gluten Free, Non GMO, Organic and Fair Trade and you can find these Sambazon acai puree packs at Ocado.
Have you tried making acai smoothie bowls yet? What do you think? What are your favourite toppings?
